Ruggermen,
This is jolly interesting news: Mike McGurn has quit his post as Ospreys conditioning coach. I wonder whether there is a deeper reason than mere "family problems". The Ospreys haven't had the best finish to the season, so perhaps the finger has been pointed at McGurn.
McGurn writes a column here. His most recent entry lists the best five athletes he has worked with - Paul O'Connell comes out top. But I suspect that McGurn focusses too much on endurance and too little on explosiveness. Is POC really a more explosive player than David Wallace? It's highly doubtful.
Watching Ryan Jones get beasted in contact against Munster last week, and watching the Irish players get beasted in contact during the World Cup, I wonder whether McGurn's bias towards endurance over dynamism is at the root of his departure from the Ospreys.
Yours, etc
