What ho, chaps!
Interesting article by Will Carling over at Rucku. Now, Carling makes some sense, I'll grant you, but I'm getting rather fed up of all these ex-England players bitching at each other. It's like an episode of St Trinian's. Matt hates Jonny because he's jealous that Jonny got so much attention, but Martin hates Matt because he thinks Matt is really beastly to Jonny, and Austin hates Matt too for the same reason. Rob loves Martin and Jonny, but hates Clive, and Clive hates Rob in return, whereas Lawrence hates Rob and loves Clive, but Will hates Lawrence because he thinks Lawrence only likes Clive because Clive will give him a job. And everyone hates John, especially Josh, except Martin, who loves John and hates Josh.I say, chaps, it's getting a bit pathetic, isn't it? Carling calls for a new broom at the RFU. Well, perhaps we need a new broom in the pundits' corner, too, so we don't have to listen to all these grown men carrying on like hysterical schoolgirls.

I couldn't agree more My Lord. The bitterness and bitching among the ex-players brigade is wholly unbecoming. I blame the tendency of the modern rugby player to spend their spare time with ballroom dancers and footballers and have forgotten that once one leaves the rugby field we are all jolly good chaps once again and one's sole purpose in life should be sharing a pint or twelve of English ale and reminiscing about the good old times.
I do not want to hold up a Celt as the paragon of virtue, but I suggest someone like Willie John McBridge needs to remind players past and present that they are not celebrities but rugby players foremost with a strongly worded letter to the Times.
